Secondary School Teachers Resources

In this section you will find some new teaching resources, written for Year 12 Social Sciences teachers, provide innovative and exciting teaching and learning units to support the study of the European Union across the social sciences disciplines.  They are aligned with the new New Zealand Curriculum and have been written by New Zealand teachers and reviewed by curriculum experts.

The resources can be taught by economics, geography or history teachers individually, or by a team of teachers who wish to focus on the European Union in their respective disciplines.

The links between New Zealand and the European Union are highlighted, particularly in the fields of international relations, free trade, overseas aid, human rights and environmental issues.

The EUCN EU in Schools programme is designed to provide New Zealand Secondary School Teachers with materials and resources on the inclusion of the EU in their teaching curriculum. A Professional Development Workshop will guide teachers through investigations into weaving the EU into their curriculum and assessment, as well as help in building personal classroom work plans.

The Model EU Training and Simulation Event will serve to educate Senior High School Students on the workings of the European Parliament, and to highlight the issues discussed at Parliamentary level.

Each of the resources features:

  • curriculum links
  • context background
  • teaching activities
  • student research reports/inquiry projects
  • resources
  • formative assessments to prepare students for their external assessment.
